Christ-Centered #CoupleGoals

Aligning Your Journey with God’s Purpose for Marriage

Social Media has a way of inspiring us to do and try things we didn’t think were possible. We type in the search bar and scour Pinterest, TikTok, or Instagram for new and creative ideas. One of the trends involves couple goals. Some of them by individuals who are way above average in the area of fitness.

It’s funny to see the couples who lean more to the normal side attempt the “couple goals” and either succeed in a not-so-impressive manner or fail miserably. No matter the result, it’s important and fun to keep the romance alive in marriage to set goals and be brave enough to attempt even the most lofty goals – together!

Understanding God’s Purpose for Marriage

Scripture in Genesis 1 clearly reveals God’s purpose for the creation of man and woman in His image and likeness. He desires that husband and wife be a mirror image of the relationship that exists with our God- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God then instructs husband and wife to multiply. We know that childbirth and discipleship fulfills this.  Lastly, when there is unity in that relationship, we are given authority to properly manage the spiritual battle we face each day through spiritual warfare.

Biblical Foundations for Setting Couple Goals

Take time today to read Matthew 6:33, Mark 10:9, Ephesians 4:2-3, and I Corinthians 13:4-6. These are just a few of the Scriptures that serve as the bedrock for couple goals that are meaningful and transforming. You and your spouse should do this together.

Practical Ways to Implement Your Goals

  1.  Regular date nights
  2.  Ask each other deep questions
  3.  Listen to understand each other
  4.  Find a shared hobby
  5.  Worship together
  6.  Engage in a joint ministry
  7.  Disconnect from distractions and enjoy a quiet moment with coffee or tea
  8.  Laugh together frequently
  9. Take a walk together
  10. Pray regularly together

Remember, these suggestions are a starting point to spark greater ideas and conversations.

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” As you embark on the journey of setting goals for 2024, consider aligning as a couple and with the Lord. Let your goals magnify the essence of Jesus and draw you and your spouse closer to one another.
